Accepted

I don’t even think I was this excited about being accepted into the university I graduated from, but then again it wasn’t my top choice, totally financial though. Yesterday during my breaks from my retail work life, I was scrolling along my Facebook, as everyone else does these days. I stumbled upon the Run Nike Women’s Series post, it had said that the results for the lottery were up and that I should check my email. I signed up for the lottery drawing about a month ago and had totally forgotten about it. I quickly checked my email to see if I was accepted. And there it was an email from Nike, clicked open…
Congratulations, your entry has been accepted. You will join 15,000 women as you conquer 13.1 miles through the streets of Washington, DC on April 27, 2014. I was immediately overcome with emotion as I stared at my phone screen.
“I got in! Oh my God, I got in! Yes!”
I looked around the break room for my friends but none were around, just co workers I occasionally say hi to. I of course had to explain why I was acting like a crazy lady.
“I got into the Nike Women’s half marathon in Washington, DC, I’m going!”
I felt like Rachel on that episode of Friends, where she finally completed that crossword puzzle all by herself and she was so excited but her friends weren’t around.
“I did it! Oh! I finished it! I did it all by myself! And there’s nobody to hug!”
I had to share the news. I screenshot my email and posted it on Facebook for my friends to see. I felt so happy, excited and proud of sharing this news. I honestly didn’t think I would get accepted, I knew it was a lottery system, but I guess the odds were in my favor. This will probably be my 12th half marathon that I’ll be running in, but my first Nike event. I’ve only seen pictures of the Nike Women’s San Francisco event and I was totally jealous. This will be the 2nd annual Washington, DC event that Nike will be hosting, I’m so excited to be participating. I’ve also never been to Washington DC, so this will be a nice little vacation I’ll enjoy as well. The unique part about the these Nike Women run events is instead of a medal at the finish line, you are given a Tiffany & Co necklace by handsome men suited up in pressed tuxedos.
I’m so excited and happy to be running at this event, I can’t wait!  But for now there is so much to do before this year ends, I can’t believe it’s already December! I of course will continue my training, I already have a half marathon scheduled in February, the Surf City USA Marathon in Huntington Beach, CA. It looks like next year is already looking up for me, hopefully the rest of my year will reflect that.
